How this eBay fee calculator works

The calculator treats the item price plus shipping charged as your cash coming in. It then subtracts your inventory cost, actual postage, supplies, final value fee, promoted listing fee, and per-order fee.

Profit = Item price + Shipping charged − Item cost − Actual shipping − Supplies − Final value fee − Ad fee − Order fee

The final value fee is estimated from the total amount of the sale entered here, including buyer sales tax. The promoted listing estimate applies the entered ad rate to the item price. Actual fee bases, category rates, caps, store discounts, and ad attribution can differ.

Do not copy somebody else’s fee percentage. eBay rates vary by category, subscription, sale amount, and seller circumstances. Enter the rate that applies to your listing.

Which eBay fee rate should you enter?

Use the current rate shown for your category and account. The default is only a working example for a common non-Store fee structure, not a promise that your sale will use that percentage. Check eBay’s official selling-fee table before pricing inventory.

Why buyer sales tax appears in the calculator

The marketplace may calculate, collect, and remit the buyer’s sales tax, so that tax is not seller revenue. But it can still affect the total amount used to calculate a final value fee. Enter the expected tax when you want a more conservative fee estimate; leave it at zero when you do not know the buyer’s location.

Use profit, margin, and ROI differently

A $20 profit can be excellent on a compact item that sells overnight and terrible on a bulky item that needed repair, storage, twelve messages, and a return-risk headache.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include income tax?

No. Income tax depends on your broader business and tax situation. This calculator estimates transaction economics only.

What if the buyer pays shipping?

Enter the amount charged to the buyer and the postage you actually expect to pay. The difference is not automatically profit because platform fees can apply to shipping charged.

Does this calculate promoted listing fees?

Yes, as a simple percentage of item price. Enter zero if the listing is not promoted. Actual attribution and fee rules are controlled by the marketplace.
